Environmental Science / Public Workdays – Fall 2013

September 28th (Sat) 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM:  Gravel Trails Maintenance on the East Loop, led by Eric Miller (volunteer: Pete Kollasch).

Repairing erosion areas, applying, spreading and shaping gravel to repair and improve eroded pathways.  Spreading mulch on pathways.  Report to the 1st Avenue Entrance.  See clothing suggestions below.

October 12th (Sat) 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM:  Gravel Trails Maintenance at the North End, led by Casey Kohrt (volunteer: Pete Kollasch).

Repairing erosion areas, applying, spreading and shaping gravel to repair and improve eroded pathways.  Spreading mulch on pathways.  Report to the North Dodge (Conklin Street) Entrance. See clothing suggestions below.

October 19th (Sat) 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM:  Bridge and Trail Repair on the East Loop , led by John Kardos (volunteer: Eric Miller).

Building bridge abutments, and filling with gravel or earth.  Repairing erosion areas, applying, spreading and shaping gravel to repair and improve eroded pathways.  Report to the 1st Avenue entrance.   See clothing suggestions below.

November 9th (Sat) 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM:  Brush Cutting on the Hickory Hill, led by Mike Fallon.  Cutting and piling honeysuckle shrubs and multiflora rose from woodland areas to encourage native plant growth.  Raking of firebreak areas.  Report to the Bloomington Street entrance.   See clothing suggestions below.

Additional Information:

Clothing Suggestion:  For all events, wear close-toed shoes and long pants. If you do not wear close-toed shoes and long pants, you will be prevented from participating. Bring a pair of work gloves, if you can, water and a snack.
